Wargaming is a Belarusian video game company based in Nicosia, Cyprus. The group works in 16 offices and development studios, the biggest of which is located in Minsk, where the company originated. Initially focused on turn-based strategy and real-time strategy games, Wargaming switched to developing free-to-play online action games in 2009, including the military-themed team-based game World of Tanks.

Strategy and results

The SEO manager of the Wargaming company contacted us to assess our spanish SEO agency in the elaboration of keyword research for the Spanish-speaking sites of the video game World of Warships.

Among the requests, it was required to rank relevant keywords in the industry, to include keywords for specific landings, and of course, to outrank their competitors.

Once the study was set up and the 1000 words of variations were reached, we continued to focus on titles and appropriate descriptions so that Google query results would show the famous warship videogame as the first result.

When making a website, the first step should be to choose the keywords we want our future customers to type in the browser.  In this case, we put ourselves in a client’s shoes whose entertainment was playing video games.

On the other hand, we had to classify keywords according to their search volume.

It was not the same to have keywords with a search volume of 20 queries per month, then others with more than 400 searches.

Keywords always go from the most generic to the most specific. In this aspect, we had to differentiate between three types of keywords:

  • Head tail
  • Middle Tail
  • Long Tail

For the World of Warships study, we chose the three keyword variants since the site’s domain authority allowed us to do so.
